Computer Virus Plot Arrests
Cyber crime is on the increase as the following recent Sky News article describes a recent security breach in the UK aimed at businesses and consumers personal data.
“A plot to steal bank details of tens of thousands of computer users has been foiled by Scotland Yard’s cyber-crime detectives.

A gang had used the ZeuS or Zbot virus to infect computers and download data, including bank account numbers, credit card passwords and other personal information.
The data was then forwarded to the hackers’ own computer server, which has now been frozen.
Police do not know if money had already been removed from accounts, or whether the stolen infomation was sold on, but the immediate threat has now been removed.
Those victims identified by investigators have been told they were hacked.
A British man and woman, both aged 20, were arrested in Manchester and have been bailed while detectives assess the damage.
The arrests are the first in Europe connected with a global law enforcement battle against criminals using the ZeuS virus.
Detective Superintendent Charlie McMurdie, head of the Yard’s e-crime unit, said: “The ZeuS trojan is a very sophisticated computer programme that has been used around the world to infect or access personal information. The potential financial harm it can cause is huge.
“The arrests represent a considerable breakthrough in our increasing efforts to combat online criminality.”
Police are advising computer users to run and keep updated anti-virus and anti-spyware software.
They should be cautious when opening attachments or following email links.
Detectives also suggest using personal firewalls and general common sense, such as disconnecting terminals from the internet when not in use.”

Windows 7 Launched – Download the Upgrade Advisor
After all the hype its finally here. Windows 7 launches claiming to improve user productivity, enhance security and control and finally streamline PC management.
The minimum system requirements for the 32bit version are a 1Ghz processor, 1Gb Memory, 16Gb free disk space and a DirectX 9 graphic’s processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher.
As always, this is the stated minimum specification required to run Windows 7, however we would always recommend a much higher specification if you want to run the system adequately. Not sure if your PC can run Windows 7? Not to worry, I have a link below where you can download a free utility from Microsoft which will check your XP or Vista machine for compatibility.
If you have Windows XP or Vista you can download and run Microsoft’s Upgrade Advisor here. Before you begin: Be sure to plug in and turn on any USB devices or other devices, such as printers, external hard disks, and scanners, that you regularly use with the PC you’re checking.
The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor scans your PC for potential compatibility issues and lets you know about your Windows 7 upgrade options. Within minutes, you’ll get a report that tells you if your PC meets the system requirements, if any known compatibility issues with your hardware, devices, and installed programs are found, and gives guidance on what to do to before installing Windows 7 on your PC.

Stay tuned to our website as during the next few weeks I will be adding additional articles on Windows 7 and how your business can benefit from them. In the meantime why not join our facebook page by clicking here so that we can keep you posted of any updates. We even have a discussion forum on Windows 7 and would like to hear your views.
