Overview of the Victorinox and its Issues

The luxury Swiss brand Victorinox, the world famous producers of the Swiss Army knife since 1891, was planning to launch its London flagship store in New Bond Street in 2008. The store will display the entire Victorinox product range of men’s & women’s fashion, timepieces and fragrances, travel goods, professional cutlery and multi-tools over three floors with a retail area of more than 4’500 square feet. A fourth floor will be used for the business’s wholesale division and offices. A reliable and professional service provider of total outsourced IT & Business Telephone solutions was required to assist with the project. Following a customer referral, Barton Technology won this prestigious contract.

Objective

Victorinox was looking for a service provider to project-manage, install, train and maintain the telecommunications and IT infrastructure, and to provide ongoing service support. The requirements were to install the telecommunication lines and a 22 extension IP based telephone system; and to provide a server based PC network with Internet access. All equipment needed to be supported during opening hours (including evenings and weekends) with rapid on-site response times and liaison with the appointed European EPOS provider and, most importantly, be provided within the stringent budget and timescales set out for the project.

Solution

Barton Technology designed a solution based on integrating technologies from a core group of manufacturers and other suppliers. In brief these consisted of HP PCs and Servers, Microsoft Windows 2003 Small Business Server, Watchguard Firewall, Avaya IP Office PBX, and Netgear LAN switching equipment. In addition, Barton Technology is providing services such as its Business Techni-cover support with extended hours, and Least Cost Routing for best value telephone calls.

Result

Barton Technology successfully provided all the equipment and services to budget and within the allotted timescales. The project was covered by a free 10 days aftercare support guarantee ensuring that any “niggles” were dealt with seamlessly and then an by ongoing support agreement. The Victorinox flagship store was successfully opened in October 2008 went without a hitch, and is already proving to be a commercial success.
