Telecommunications & IT Installation Project
Overview Of The Victorinox & Their Objectives
The luxury Swiss brand Victorinox, the world famous producers of the Swiss Army knife since 1891, was planning to launch its London flagship store in New Bond Street in 2008. The store will display the entire Victorinox product range of men’s & women’s fashion, timepieces and fragrances, travel goods, professional cutlery and multi-tools over three floors with a retail area of more than 4’500 square feet. A fourth floor will be used for the business’s wholesale division and offices. A reliable and professional service provider of total outsourced IT & Business Telephone solutions was required to assist with the project. Following a customer referral, Barton Technology won this prestigious contract.
Victorinox was looking for a service provider to project-manage, install, train and maintain the telecommunications and IT infrastructure, and to provide ongoing service support. The requirements were to install the telecommunication lines and a 22 extension IP based telephone system; and to provide a server based PC network with Internet access. All equipment needed to be supported during opening hours (including evenings and weekends) with rapid on-site response times and liaison with the appointed European EPOS provider and, most importantly, be provided within the stringent budget and timescales set out for the project.
Barton Technology designed a solution based on integrating technologies from a core group of manufacturers and other suppliers. In brief these consisted of HP PCs and Servers, Microsoft Windows 2003 Small Business Server, Watchguard Firewall, Avaya IP Office PBX, and Netgear LAN switching equipment. In addition, Barton Technology is providing services such as its Business Techni-cover support with extended hours, and Least Cost Routing for best value telephone calls.
Barton Technology successfully provided all the equipment and services to budget and within the allotted timescales. The project was covered by a free 10 days aftercare support guarantee ensuring that any “niggles” were dealt with seamlessly and then an by ongoing support agreement. The Victorinox flagship store was successfully opened in October 2008 went without a hitch, and is already proving to be a commercial success.
Network Upgrade Project
Overview Of Mondial & Their Objectives
Mondial approached us having been increasingly unsettled with their current support company. Their network was reported to be under-supported and was causing security and performance concerns. Despite having a long relationship with previous company, client said that old company gave the impression that they were too far away and unable to respond in a timely manner and therefore not getting the deserved service. On top of that, staff was unable to work efficiently as they were unable to make full use of the shared files, printer’s etc.
As a initial step, Barton consultated with the client to investigate their current problems and to understand the appropriate changes needed to provide a stable working network. We listened to the client and designed a staged plan to budget for the updating and upgrading of their network. This allowed for budgetary projections and better control over their cash flow.
The outcome for Mondial was to be able to have a more efficient network allowing for staff to be more confident of carrying out their daily tasks in an improved efficient way. They now had a local company on tap both over the phone or who were prepared to attend on-site whenever it was needed and at short notice which is provided as a standard service. This allowed the staff and management to concentrated on running the business while the Barton team proactively managed the running of the network and working with their 3rd party suppliers and software developers.
Server Installation Project
Overview Of Easi Accounting & Their Objectives
Easi Accounting had a PC acting as a server which restricted the network to basic file sharing, inadequate security and restricted his ability to expand his business. The owner was wasting his precious time on dealing with IT issues himself. Some of the equipment that had been installed was not working as it should be. The business was reliant on connecting to a third party service, which kept disconnecting during the working day.
Our consultant advised on the best course of action and project managed, supplied and installed a new dedicated server, reconfigured the network and added a firewall device to increase security. A proactive support agreement was put in place to cover the network after our 14 day free aftercare service had expired.
Now Now has user security in line with Microsoft best practices which gives them granular control over who and how users can access company files. Better centralised backup and redundancy of his data to our online backup solution. The firewall is now better protecting the network from malicious attack and Neil has more time to deal with growing the business than dealing with problems.
‘Barton Technology replaced our office file server a couple of months ago to support our office expansion. I was very impressed with Barton’s performance, from quoting through to project management and installation. Whilst working within our demanding business deadlines, they minimised downtime of our operations and continue to provide excellent aftercare and support. Using Barton Technology was a great decision – highly recommended.’ – Neil Oliver, Director, Easi Accounting Ltd
